ACTIVITIES

  • Journaling: Encourage kids to write about their feelings and memories of their loved ones.
  • Art Projects: Creating memory boxes or drawing pictures can help children express their emotions.
  • Playlists: Music has a way of conjuring up meories. Help your child put together a playlist that reminds them of their loved one that they can put on when they want to think of them.
  • Video: If your child has experience with slideshow programs (i.e. Adobe Spark, PowerPoint, Capcut, etc.) have them put together a video of a special occasion with their loved one.

OPEN COMMUNICATION

Encourage honest and open conversations about the loss. Let your child ask questions and express their feelings.

MODEL HEALTHY GRIEVING

Show your child that it’s okay to grieve. Share your own feelings and coping strategies.

CREATE ROUTINES

Maintain, or create, routines to provide a sense of normalcy and security.
